We are delighted to be able to launch the Compass Young Producers Scheme as a new addition to our activities in 2014, aimed at young people aged between 18 – 25 who are keen to gain experience of working in the arts.
The scheme is geared towards the delivery of Compass Festival (13 – 23 November 2014) and will offer 6 individuals the chance to benefit from a 6 month programme of activity including one to one mentoring, fortnightly master classes with the festival team, our partners and artists and crucially, work on placement, delivering the festival programme alongside the festival team.
Areas which the Young Producers scheme will cover include:
- programming
- venue liaison
- finance
- technical management
- marketing and communications
- distribution
- artist liaison
- managing volunteers
The sessions will be mostly practical, including getting to know the Compass Festival team and festival artists. Participants will benefit from sessions led by our partners including venues, performance companies, marketing and PR agencies and other consultants.
It is anticipated that during the training each trainee will develop an individual work plan based on their aptitude and interests.
The aim is to equip the trainees with confidence and skills to operate as assistant producers leading up to and during the Festival.
Trainees will need to commit to this series of sessions and the Festival schedule, be prepared to work hard, show individual initiative, work in a group and take direction. In return they will gain unique experience and insight into producing a festival that will enhance their CVs, increase opportunities for employment and help them establish their interests.
