'On a hot summer day we met with Year 4 students form Shire Oak Primary School at Headingley Hall, also joined by the residents to gather the roses growing in their stunning garden. Together we took a moment to reflect on what this symbol means to them and others in the city. Eddie led an ‘en plein air’ drawing session whilst giving a talk about flowers in art. Our new friends created some beautiful close up drawings of the White Roses. We then collectively picked the roses and gathered the petals. Back at the Compass office we washed and dried the petals to infuse the sugar for the first batch of Leeds Sauce.'
