Interactive landscapes; a residency exploring techniques for making work for and in response to site

In this relaxed and informal weekend long workshop, explore alongside Invisible Flock the many ways in which site specific sound, text and images can be combined to create new work in response to place. The weekend will consider how site and environment influences and effects this form of practice. From experimenting with technology to looking at the nuts and bolts of creating a simple yet effective digital piece whether an audio walk, text adventure, augmented reality or something else entirely, this retreat will introduce artists and makers to the possibilities for developing site related work including the use of mobile phones and GPS.  Explore practical techniques such as basic sound recording, editing and manipulation, through to specific tools and platforms for creating digital site driven work, such as GPS driven apps, interactive experiences, sound works and performance.

The two night residential will take place against the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire dales. The setting has been specifically chosen to support the residential’s aims and allow for a genuinely productive and enjoyable weekend away from day to day pressures.

Who’s it for?

Artists and makers interested in beginning to use technology and/or site within their practice, specifically working with digital technologies and creating interactive art. We encourage applications from those at all stages of their career.

About Invisible Flock

Recently described in the Guardian as “real innovators” of digital and interactive art Invisible Flock are renowned for creating ground breaking hybrid work across forms.

We have made seafront installations powered by apps interacting with nautical buoys, sound walks across Morecambe Bay, created revolutionary communities via SMS, new pieces that span continents as well as work for galleries, theatres, city streets and soon for outer space.

Our latest work, If You Go Away, is an app; a cinematic game about experiencing your city like never before. It re-imagines methods of artistic distribution and participation, taking place in multiple cities simultaneously, premier in 5 UK cities at once throughout September/October 2015 before touring internationally in 2016.
