CALL OUT FOR PROPOSALS

Compass Festival – Leeds biennial festival of live art – returns for a third edition on 11 – 20 November 2016. The Compass Festival is a celebration of socially engaged live art in the public realm. We commission artists to engage directly with particular communities or operate in public spaces. 

We are looking for work to animate Leeds city centre on the second weekend of the Festival 18 – 20 November. Work may take place in any public setting for any duration, although we are especially interested in works of long duration or that could be repeated a number of times a day throughout the weekend. 

This call is open to any practitioner/s who can respond to the following brief.

We’re looking for work that is:

Original, arresting, thoughtful and generous.

Made for a public setting such as shopping centres, cafés, the street.

Requires the artist/s to be present, live.

Invites participation to the extent that audience presence and interaction is required to activate, complete or animate the work.

Durational – able to operate (or repeat) over hours/days

Realisable within the resources outlined below.

What you can expect from Compass:

There is a fixed fee of £1000 per project, plus UK travel and accommodation. You must be able to deliver your project for this amount and be technically self-sufficient. 

There will be tech support to help install and strike your work. Any technical operation throughout the piece must be manageable by yourself or one of our stewards. 

You will have pre-production support from the Compass team as well as marketing and press coverage.
