Come find the Citizens Advise Bureau in Leeds town centre (or online) and be one of the first to deposit your words of wisdom at Empathy Museum’s advice dispensary.

Do you know the best way to survive an apocalypse, how to heal a lovers’ quarrel, or remove that pesky stain?  Tell us!  We’re all ears.

The Citizens Advise Bureau continues from Empathy Museum’s reimaginings of the High Street, with projects transforming the shoe shop, library, estate agents, and bookshop.

It’s more than 80 years since the original Citizens Advice Bureaux were opened by community ‘people of standing’ in local cafés, church halls and mobile horseboxes – quickly becoming a countrywide movement giving advice on a range of issues including housing, health and finance. Today, with politicians floundering, experts doubted, and plenty of our own issues, what citizen’s advice can we share among each other about anything and everything, large or small, niche or broad?

At the Citizens Advise Bureau, you can contribute and receive advice on all sorts of topics – from love and sex to DIY and boredom, from dealing with anxiety or grief, to parenting, cutting hair or poaching an egg. It’s a space to share our collective wisdom about the world, a field guide to living now at a time when we need it most.

The Citizens Advise Bureau will be popping up in places around the UK, asking anyone and everyone to give their ultimate advice and receive someone else’s in return. Leeds is the very first stop, a bit of an experiment to help us test and develop our ideas.  So come whisper your most sage words into the giant ear, have your photo taken to display on our Citizens Advise wall, and take a copy home with you. Or give it to a friend – you never know when they might need it!
