Help to shape the future of Compass Festival!

Compass Live Art is seeking to expand its current Board of Trustees. We’re a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We’re committed to Leeds and to making extraordinary art projects accessible and available to everyone. Compass has grown steadily over the last 14 years and we want to expand the board to include some additional skills and perspectives.

We’ve worked hard at trustee level to foreground inclusivity and since 2020 are proud that our board is reflective of the city we live and work in. Our trustees comprise artists, community leaders, production technicians and communicators.

As we begin to form and plan our 2026 festival edition and look at opportunities for the organisation in the medium to longer term we are looking to recruit new people to join us:

Compass Chair

After 5 years as a fantastic Compass trustee and 3 as Chair, we are thanking Manpreet Dhadda for her outstanding contribution as she steps down as Chair. We’re looking for someone to take her place who is passionate about Compass’ approach and programme to help steer the future of the organisation.

Treasurer Trustee

We are also looking for a treasurer/trustee to support the Director and other trustees in overseeing the financial governance of Compass. Compass finances have been managed soundly over 14 years, raising hundreds of thousands from Arts Council, local authority, private trusts, business support and donations. We’re seeking a trustee dedicated to Compass’ finances to secure this track record whilst maximising new opportunities into the future.

We would particularly welcome interest from

  • people who are active in Leeds’ communities
  • people working in financial management, services or business planning
  • people working in communications and PR
  • people working in the law
  • independent business owners
  • academics specialising in climate and/or food systems

You don’t need to have all these, of course. We are looking for engaged, active people who can attend 4 meetings a year, be advocates for Compass, attend our events and are willing to take on the responsibilities of becoming a charity trustee.

There are six essential responsibilities of a Trustee

  1. Ensure your charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  2. Comply with your charity’s governing document and the law
  3. Act in your charity’s best interests
  4. Manage your charity’s resources responsibly
  5. Act with reasonable care and skill
  6. Ensure your charity is accountable

The process:

We are looking at this stage for expressions of interest which we can develop further through informal conversations. If you are interested in becoming a Trustee of Compass Live Art or you want to know more about who we are and what we do, please drop us a line and we can arrange an informal chat in the first instance via peter@compassliveart.org.uk.
