Find your face in the crowd.

Small Acts invite you to play Faceback, a radical antidote to online social networking where you meet people “IRL”, in real life. From a pop-up hub in Kirkgate Market, the friendly Faceback team will turn your face into a badge. You wear a badge with someone else’s face on.  Your mission is to find them, and give them their face back!

Over 3 days the game gradually pervades the market, generating hundreds of conversations and connections between shoppers, traders, visitors and audience members, who may not otherwise meet. Through the power of play, Small Acts’ project encourages face-to-face encounters in an age of increasing social isolation and digital disenchantment, reconnecting the people of Leeds right here in Kirkgate Market.

About the artist.

Katie Etheridge and Simon Persighetti (Small Acts) have been creating playful, participatory performances and artworks since 2011, collaborating with people and places across the UK to bring individuals and communities together in unexpected and often joyful ways.

Faceback was originally commissioned by New Work Network for National Review of Live Art. Designed and created by Katie Etheridge and Simon Persighetti (Small Acts). Original concept by Katie Etheridge.
