An experiment in performing language at Leeds’ Art gallery.

A system of language communication exists in our every encounter. Yet do we question how this conditions us?

In this original text performance installation, multidisciplinary artist Moi Tran invites us into a process of unthinking our relationship to language, in both thought and form.

Designed to fill the Central Court at Leeds Art Gallery, this meditative, interactive work becomes a site for interrogating how meaning shifts when language structures are disrupted, gaps are nudged and text is reassembled.

This large scale peripatetic text sculpture will fully occupy the Central Court at Leeds Art Gallery, immersing viewers into a meditative, interactive site for interrogating how meaning shifts when language structures are disrupted, gaps are nudged and text is reassembled. 

For 10 days in November, activators are invited to perform the movable sculptural Text to reveal how alternative meanings can emerge hidden in language.

About the artist.

Moi Tran is an award-winning UK-based artist, designer, researcher and educator of Vietnamese and Chinese heritage. Her practice spans contemporary art installations and live performances, alongside prominent work as a set and costume designer for major theater, opera, and dance productions. This is the first iteration of The Text is Restless, and the first time Moi’s work has been displayed in Leeds.
