We’re presenting a special one day pop up of Ling Tan’s installation Leeds’ Low Carbon Chinatown for Chapel FM’s event Global Connections Open House.

Reflecting on global food systems, watch a series of films made with people in Leeds showcasing low carbon adapted recipes for traditional Chinese dishes. The project celebrates Chinese diasporic food culture and uses it as a starting point for finding ways of reducing our carbon footprint in a delicious and joyful way.

About

Global Connections Market Open House: Seacroft Goes Global is a festive open house celebrating global connections through live radio, music, arts and crafts, food, creative writing, zines, giant puppets, story-sharing and more.

Low Carbon Chinatown is an ongoing project that uses Chinese food culture in the UK as a starting point due its popularity and misperceptions around its environmental impact. Through collaboration with UK-based East and Southeast Asian migrant communities, Ling Tan works to develop new ‘authentic’ sustainable ways of producing, sourcing and consuming food that evokes joy and memories using science, art and technology.

Trained as an architect, Ling Tan is a designer, artist, and creative technologist known for her work on social engagement, urban data science, and environmental politics. Her work challenges the ways people interact with their built environments, using technology as a catalyst for dialogue and action.
